Reflection Upon My Project

I had been making this game as apart of my 20% Project for English and believing that making a game would be easy. Neither myself or my partner could predict what would have happened what problems we would face. We thought that by using a program instead of actually learning all the programming that comes along with creating a game would be easier. I was in charge of most of the character design and even that took more work than I thought.
During the process of making the presentation I came to a realization that if we worked harder we could have gotten so much more done. I personally had troubles with the program because I kept forgetting how to import tile sets and even make certain events. I wish we could have worked more together and less interdependently on this. Due to schedule difficulties we could not meet after school. We relied on Google documents and chats to ensure that what we were doing was getting done. It was very difficult to work with a partner in this situation because of differences of opinion. We had different ideas of were this plot would go. I will continue to work with the program. Not necessarily the game Revelation, but I will make a short game.

Blog 12

So we have been working on a story board and we decided to shorten the story significantly due to the time limit.. We have finally decided on a name for the game though "Revelation" is the games official name!! We decided to make it only two endings based on the players answers upon the "Revelation" the Main character will go through once all of the desired events have played out. We have Character sketches for the Parents and the older brother as well as possible female counter part to Knox. Story is probably one of the hardest things we had to come up with besides figuring out how to work the program. With the story you have to have it COMPLETELY thought out beginning middle end as well as how they characters end up there. Unless you're willing to spend a few years designing the game itself.  Below is my Partner working on a Google document with myself on the story board

So we are working more on the story board aspect at this time trying to find out what choices you are going to make what music will be playing etc. The hard part is we know the endings...but don't quite know how to reach them... we decided to do only one story line because of shrinking time. One of the problems we have with RPG maker 2003 is that it is very limited on graphics everything. If we import a tile set we have to go through and edit what you can walk through or behind or what you cant walk on. As well as having to lower the color scheme. I found a few decent looking tile sets to use they were pretty decent but when I converted it to fit the colors for the program it just looked bad so we are trying to find an alternative to the program by experimenting with what will give us what options. If you know any free program with few limitations let me know :D it would be a great help :3 (above is the uniform inspirations for the main )

Week 8

So these past weeks I have learned how to add a new tile set to the game. A tile set is like how the ground and buildings look. By learning this my partner and I no longer have to use the defaults and improve the quality of the game. I have been working on the head shots of the characters you come in contact with. My partner figured out how to change the sprites. Sprites are like the smaller version of the character. Like the character you control in Pokemon is called a sprite.Changing the style of sprites is very similar to changing the tile set. My partner has found a program that allows you to record what your doing on the computer. (like you see in those editing videos on youtube) she has been playing around with it for about a week now. Its a free program i will get you the name of it as soon as I can :3 .

Blog#5

So we have been playing around with the program (RPG MAKER 2003) and we are still trying to figure out how to use our own sprite sheet but there hasn't been much success on that. We have been making maps and events. Events are what I personally have been working on the most. There are many different events you can do like default like, change party, save point, move character, end game, etc. With the transitions to the different rooms like going into buildings etc. I am still having some troubles with having a specific character that I had  set to be in the lead characters way to prevent from entering a certain area until the story line deems fit. So my partner and I will be working on it this week.. I am not working on the ACTUAL game for the project but a test one to see what I can and cannot do on this program. The game graphics are pretty limited so its nothing really fancy but it works.

Week 7

So I know I skipped a week buuuuuuut that was due to me being super busy finishing rough character designs. I had created rough sketches of the mother, the father, the older brother, and Knox in his school uniform and his casual clothes. most of the designs have no face but..its not like that's important rite :D. Just kidding this week I'm going to fill in their faces. I have amazing news!!!! We have found a program that we can create our own sprites!!! Its called RPG Maker 95. Graphics not amazing. BUT its a program!!! the only catch is that it only works on programs like vista...BUT (again) we are lucky to have my amazing partner and her piece of ju- I mean old computer that runs on vista, its a free program and we get to design our own characters (that was our main problem with the other free RPG makers) on top of it all Paulina,my partner, is willing to learn programming if it is needed to design our game. Things are finally starting to fall into place lets just see how long that lasts.. until next week!

RPG process week 6

I am very sorry for skipping a few weeks I have been busily working on character design and UNFORTUNATELY still a program...if any of the readers have any ideas of programs that my partner and i could use please leave a comment!!!! it would be greatly appreciated.. we are looking to spend nothing more than time on this project so free programs would be AMAZING. But for the main character Knox whom is around seven or eight my reference for his hair would be Eren Jaeger from Shingeki no Kyojin. Reasion being is that because he is portrayed to be a young naive character I envision his hair to be short and choppy. His older brother on the other hand Torelle his hair style will be similar to Jean Kirstein from Shingeki no Kyojin. His role is similar to the correctional officers of the city so his hair should be shorter as well as neat so i'm taking the idea of the length of the hair from Jean.
